Saturday 2nd June - Sywell Aerodrome

Scheduled for this weekend are the Mazda British Aerobatic Championships. This event is very much influenced by the weather but if all goes to plan, Saturday will feature the Unlimited Final Freestyle and the Advanced Masters events. The pilots perform within a virtual box, centered above the main runways, so you will get a grandstand view of the breath-taking aerobatic manoeuvres!

The airfield will remain operational during the contest, so light aircraft and helicopters of all types will be coming and going as usual from this historic grass airfield. Don't forget you can also view the exhibits in the adjoining Sywell Aerodrome Museum which has a new extension scheduled to open this Easter.

Additional outward pick-ups: Abington Square 13:25 - Morrisons (Kettering Rd) 13:35

Sunday 17th June (Father's Day) - Countryside Saunter (Braunston)

This event was very well attended last year and most members expressed their enthusiasm for a repeat trip. Journeying via Kislingbury, Bugbrook, Nether Heyford, Weedon and Daventry with a stop at the Boathouse canal-side pub in Braunston. We will remain long enough for you to either have a meal at this excellent canal side pub or explore the village and marina.

Sunday 8th July - Northampton & Lamport Railway

We'll start with a countryside saunter and arrive at the Northampton & Lamport Railway station in time for the 14:30 service. There is a charge for the train ride so it's up to the individual members who want to make the most of today's visit. (Fares: Adult £4.60, Child & OAP £3.60, Family £14.50). Time permitting, we may be able to stop off at the Windhover pub on the way back. .

Sunday 22nd July - Wicksteed Park - Kettering (Depart 12:30)

Wicksteed Park, as well as having rides and attractions, is also an English Heritage Grade II Listed Park and Garden and visitors can walk into the grounds 365 days a year, free of charge. Wicksteed was first opened in the 1920's and it's about time we paid a visit to this local attraction. Although entrance is free, there is obviously a charge for the rides. (Wristbands giving access to all rides are: Adults £13, Children £17. If we get 20 or more members wanting to purchase a wristband, we can get them all at £13 each as a group discount). Those members that are not bothered about swings and roundabouts can alight in the town centre and sample the local hostelries. Please note the earlier departure time of 12:30 for this event.

Additional outward pick-ups: Abington Square 12:45 - Morrisons (Kettering Rd) 12:50

Sunday 5th August - Ravensthorpe Church Fete (Depart 12:30)

To be held at Torch Hill Farm in this picturesque village. Plenty of stalls and attractions. Since the bus was so well received last year, they have asked us back again this year. There is normally a £1 entrance fee but 154 members will get free admission. Please note the earlier departure time of 12:30 for this event.

Additional outward pick-ups: Waitrose Centre 12:45 - Windmill Pub 12:50

Sunday 19th August - Mystery Tour Number 1

This is the first Mystery Tour of the year. The real reason behind these events is that at the time of writing, we haven't actually got a clue where we might be going. This gives us some breathing space to come up with a trip of truly astounding proportions (we hope!).

Heritage Weekend - Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September

Although the Heritage Open Day event begins on Thursday 6th September, the vintage bus service only operates on the last two days. Apart from ourselves, there will usually be an assortment of vintage vehicles present.

This event is subject to final confirmation. Please check the details here on the Northampton Borough Council website nearer the date. Please note: these buses depart from George Row in the town centre, not St James.

Sunday 30th September - Stoke Bruerne - Village at War

This retro event last year enjoyed fantastic weather and ensured that everyone had such a good time we felt obliged to include this in our calendar again. We will travel direct to the village to give you more time to enjoy the many facilities on offer. Apart from the two canal-side pubs (The Boat & The Navigation) there is the Canal Museum, boat trips, pleasant walks and the Blisworth Tunnel which, at 3,076 yards long is one of the longest navigable tunnels in the country and forms part of the Grand Union Canal network in Northamptonshire.

Additional outward pick-ups: Wood Hill 13:20 - Delapre Gate 13:25

Sunday 21st October - Mystery Tour Number 2

Our trip brochure wouldn't be complete without the obligatory second Mystery Tour. Last year we ended up at Rushden Transport Museum, which just happened to have a 1940's weekend in full swing. We had a record turnout of 45 members for this last tour of the season and, without exception, all thoroughly enjoyed it. Will we go there again this year? You'll have to turn up to find out!

Important Note regarding the St James Bus depot
For all excursions that start from the St James depot, please ensure that you park in the old bus club car park and, since the First Bus company now operates 7 days a week, wait within the confines of the parking area until ready to board 154. Many thanks.
